In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, the nomadic basic schools in Olugunwa and Alaworo, Oke Amu, have become symbols of hope for education in underserved communities. These schools, often operating under challenging conditions, received a much-needed boost during the recent homecoming event organized by the Oke Amu Prestige Elite Club.
Despite facing infrastructural and staffing challenges, the schools have continued to serve as pillars of education for nomadic children in the area. The visit by the elite club brought not only material support but also a renewed sense of purpose to the schools, their pupils, and the teachers who have dedicated themselves to the cause of education in these remote communities.
At Olugunwa Nomadic Basic School, the club secretary, Hon. Hassan, introduced the visiting members, emphasizing their commitment to improving education in Oke Amu. The headmaster expressed heartfelt gratitude for the visit and outlined the pressing needs of the school, including the absence of furniture, dilapidated classrooms, and a lack of basic teaching materials. Despite these hurdles, the pupils impressed the club members with their ability to recite the national anthem fluently and display their academic brilliance. Writing materials were presented to the pupils, and teachers were rewarded with token support to acknowledge their unwavering dedication.
Similarly, at Alaworo Nomadic Basic School, the visit underscored the dire state of the institution. The headmaster, who had worked tirelessly for five years before finally receiving an additional teacher, described the challenges of operating a school with only one classroom and no furniture to separate pupils into grades. The collapsed building further compounded the difficulties. Nevertheless, the school continues to provide education to the nomadic community, a testament to the resilience of both teachers and pupils. The club members presented basic school supplies and assured the school of future intervention.
The Oke Amu Prestige Elite Club’s gesture highlighted their dedication to fostering education even in the most remote and challenging locations. Club members emphasized that their support extended beyond financial assistance to include inspiration and encouragement for pupils to pursue their dreams despite the odds. The financial secretary, a professor at the University of Ghana and a proud alumnus of the community shared his journey as a source of motivation for the pupils, urging them to remain focused on their studies and dream big.
