The National Association of University Students (NAUS), Oyo State Chapter, has commended the management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, for reinstating the institution’s Students’ Union Government and conducting what it described as a peaceful, credible, free, and fair election.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Executive Chairman, Comrade Salam Waris Abioye, the association described the development as a major milestone in strengthening democratic governance and student participation within the university.
According to NAUS, the restoration of the Students’ Union Government reflects the university management’s commitment to participatory governance, democratic values, and responsible student leadership.
The association noted that the reinstatement would further enhance the relationship between the university administration and the student community by providing a legitimate platform for students’ representation and engagement.
NAUS also congratulated the newly elected executive council of the LAUTECH Students’ Union Government, led by President-elect, Comrade Famakin Mubaraq Olanrewaju, popularly known as “DOPEMAN,” on their victory in the election.
The association expressed confidence in the ability of the new leadership to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, and purposeful leadership while prioritising the welfare and academic interests of students.
“As the umbrella body representing university students across Oyo State, we assure the newly elected executives of our support and collaboration in advancing policies and initiatives that will promote students’ welfare, academic excellence, leadership development, and sustainable progress within the institution,” the statement read.
NAUS further appreciated the efforts of the LAUTECH management, the electoral committee, security agencies, and other stakeholders for ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.
The association also urged students of the institution to remain united and support the newly inaugurated administration in the collective interest of advancing the growth and development of the university.
It reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Students’ Union leadership in promoting the interests of students and sustaining a conducive academic environment.
