The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and Oyo State Government have partnered to train primary school teachers from 25 local government areas in innovative history teaching methods for basic education. This seminar, held from October 21 to 23, 2024, at the UBEC office in Ibadan, aimed to equip teachers with effective techniques to make history engaging and interactive.
The training, facilitated by Mr. Bassey Joseph Effiong from the University of Ibadan, emphasized the significance of reintroducing history education to reduce social vices and promote positive attitudes and behaviors. Mr. Idris Oladipupo, Training Supervisor, applauded Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, and Dr. Nureni Adediran, Executive Chairman of Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, for their invaluable support.
Oladipupo stressed that properly trained teachers are crucial to achieving the stated objectives. The facilitator utilized interactive methods, including fun activities, songs, plays and teacher-learner interactions, to convey effective teaching techniques.
As a participant, I, Folarin from Itesiwaju Local Government, Ipapo, appreciated the organizers’ efforts and highlighted key areas for improvement in subsequent training sessions, alongside fellow representatives, including Mr. Aromolaran from Oyo West.
In the final remarks, Mrs. Ilori, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board officer, urged beneficiaries to utilize their training to transform education in their respective local governments. Participants were encouraged to share their newfound knowledge with fellow teachers, promoting a ripple effect of enhanced history education across the state.
