An Appeal to Governor Makinde: Increase Amotekun Corps Members in Ipapo Community

We commend Engineer Seyi Makinde for his historic move to recruit more Amotekun security officers in Oyo State, bolstering the state’s security architecture and enhancing citizens’ welfare. However, upon reviewing the recent recruitment list, we noticed that Ipapo Community received only three slots.

We urge Governor Makinde to reconsider and expand the list to include more youths from Ipapo, leveraging their familiarity with the community’s vast agricultural lands and forests. With rising security concerns in Oke Ogun axis, local hunters knowledgeable about the area’s terrain are crucial.

The existing ten officers, plus the three newly recruited, total thirteen – insufficient to secure Ipapo’s forests and farmlands. Notably, neighboring local government areas like Atisbo and Oorelope, with fewer towns, received larger allocations.

Inadequate forest security has driven farmers away from their livelihoods in Ipapo and Itesiwaju communities. If unchecked, this may replicate the dire situation in Northern Nigeria, where farmers pay ransom to kidnappers to farm.We congratulate the three successful candidates from Ipapo:

Azeez Moshood Amoo, Yinus Jimoh Adewumi, and Ogunleti Muritala, on their selection into the Amotekun Corps.
