The Ipapo Community Grammar School (ICGS) hosted its 40th Annual Inter-House Sports Competition on Thursday, February 6, 2025, drawing a distinguished gathering of traditional rulers, community leaders, and government officials.
Among the esteemed attendees was His Royal Majesty, Oba Yekini Ademola Abioye II, the Eleyinpo of Ipapo Land, who commended the students for their impressive athletic performances. Addressing the audience, the monarch lauded the organizers, parents, and teachers for their commitment to fostering student sports development.
In his remarks, Oba Abioye encouraged students to view sports as a viable career path, emphasizing its global prospects. He also called on parents and guardians to nurture their children’s talents, reinforcing that Ipapo remains a peaceful and welcoming community. Newly posted teachers were urged to embrace their civic duties enthusiastically and enthusiastically.
The school principal, Mrs. Oyeniran C.O., stressed the significance of professionalism and sportsmanship. She reminded participants that the essence of the Olympic spirit lies in participation rather than victory, urging students to compete with integrity.
Hon. Soliu Mutairu, leader of the Itesiwaju Local Government Legislative Chamber, attended the event alongside council members. He praised the school’s dedication to academic and extracurricular excellence and encouraged continued collaboration with the state government.

The 2025 competition was a spectacle of skill and endurance, with students from Eleyinpo, Oyedemi, Olugbagbin, and Omosanda Houses competing in a variety of track and field events. Races included the 100m, 200m, 400m, 1,500m, and 4×100m relays, alongside traditional fun games such as the egg race, three-legged race, tug of war, and staff relay.
Oyedemi House emerged as the overall champion, claiming multiple trophies, including the 1,500m race and the prestigious Match Pass event. Awards were presented to outstanding athletes and winning teams in various categories.
The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including religious and community leaders such as Rev. Ojelere of First Baptist Church, SGB representative Deacon Awoleye, PTA representative Mr. Taiwo Babayemi, Hon. Musa, and Hon. Soliu Mutairu. Their presence underscored the significance of the competition in uniting and inspiring the community.
The 40th edition of the ICGS sports competition reaffirmed the school’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded students, blending academic excellence with athletic prowess in an atmosphere of camaraderie and spirited competition.
